Leadership That Listens
I'm Kari Statham. I am running for city council this year. I want to make thoughtful decisions that continue to make Vernon better.
Our community faces new challenges every day, and I believe good leadership starts with listening ...hearing from residents, understanding different perspectives, and working together to find solutions that benefit Vernon as a whole.
My business experience has taught me that you don’t have to agree on everything to move forward. Collaboration means standing your ground when it matters, compromising when it makes sense, and approaching every conversation with an open mind.
We won’t always agree around the council table, and we don’t need to. What matters is having tough conversations respectfully, finding common ground where we can, and ultimately working toward what is best for our community.
Most importantly, we need to listen not just to each other, but to the people of Vernon.
I believe leadership is about education, business sense, financial responsibility, and above all, teamwork. Whether as a mom, a friend, or a leader, I’ve always valued different perspectives and finding a way forward together.
That’s the kind of leadership I believe in, and the kind of leadership I want to bring to Vernon.
As we approach the election, my focus remains where it belongs: on listening to you. Over the last few weeks, I have had the privilege of engaging directly with citizens across our community, meeting with local farmers to understand their unique challenges and connecting with the residents of Predator Ridge also a unique part of our city. In my corporate career, I have always worked for the organization and its people—that mindset is part of my DNA. I am entirely comfortable being a public servant because I believe city councillors work for the city and its residents. To me, being a councillor means upholding two non-negotiable fundamentals: absolute accountability and making decisions that strictly serve the public interest over personal gain. I have no personal agendas; my agendas are yours. That is why I have personally answered and followed up on every single message and email sent to my campaign. I am committed to bringing this dedication, transparency, and collaboration to city hall, and I look forward to earning your vote!
